ABSTRACT
This paper is comprised of the reproduction of a six-month period of Torao Tago’s diary, which in total covers the six years from 1940 to 1945. Tago became famous after his play won second place in a creative writing contest sponsored by the magazine Renovation in 1931. This period is covered in the diary, from January to late May 1941. Tago then went on a press trip to Manchuria on May 24, 1941 at the request of the Manchurian railway company. Tago’s thoughts during this period seem to have been recorded in another notebook, as detailed, relevant information cannot be found in his original notebook. However, text that seems to have been published by Tago after returning from the trip have been included in this paper as a reference.
