| ABSTRACT |
|
The Nanshi Daily, published in Guangzhou during the war, was the Japanese-language newspaper of the Sunlin Association, published under the Japanese Governor General of Taiwan. It was also the organ of the press bureau of the Japanese expeditionary force in Nanshi. This newspaper supported the propaganda activities of the Japanese occupation forces, and also promoted the customs of the South China region. The literary page of this newspaper mainly contained pieces that were related to pacification activities, the Guangdong region, and criticism of the Chongqing government, the US, and the UK, as well as literary reviews that often encouraged support for the Greater East Asia War. A large number of the contributors of these articles were Japanese residents who migrated to the South China region, and Japanese occupation soldiers. Therefore, many articles published in this literary page included the accounts of people’s personal experience, essays, and haiku. |
