ABSTRACT
After founding the Association of Modern Japanese Women’s Literature, the Global Institute for Japanese Studies at Korea University published The Modern Japanese Women’s Literary Anthology (in 18 volumes) as part of the Japan World Fair Memorial Fund Project in 2018. By including a huge range of material, from the early modern works of Ichiyo Higuchi to the works of Okinawa’s leading female writer Tami Sakiyama, this anthology is a rich resource for anyone seeking a greater understanding of the trajectory and development of modern Japanese women’s literature. In addition, it concludes with not only translated novels and poems but also academic papers on modern Japanese literature. These academic papers include a discussion of previous Japanese women’s literature as well as an in-depth examination of new issues in this field that can most productively be examined under the rubric of “women’s literature”.
